Well-known press release distribution site PRWeb added Twitter functionality to its distribution options today.

Study finds social media equally influential to... →
A new survey found that C-suite executives and IT managers trust social media just as much as mainstream media when considering tech purchases.
The “Tech Decision Maker” study found that decision makers consider their personal experience (58%) first when short-listing tech vendors, followed by word-of-mouth and industry analyst reports, tied at 51%.
But a nearly equal number of respondents cited...

Few CMOs Think They're Effectively Tracking Social... →
A recent survey of 400 chief marketing officers provided pretty disheartening results about how companies are monitoring what people say about their brands in social media. Fifty-six percent of respondents said their companies have no programs to track or propagate positive word-of-mouth, and only 16% of respondents said their companies have any routine system in place for monitoring what...

The Top 20 Social Networks of 2008 →
Nielsen Online just released its report on the top 20 social networks of 2008. MySpace beat out Facebook by 3 million unique visitors, in order to take the top slot. LinkedIn came in fourth, and Twitter placed 12th. It seems even the older generation is embracing social networking as well, with Classmates.com and Reunion.com coming in third and fifth, respectively.

HotorNot.com - Now Fluffing/Crushing Egos via...
CNet.com announced yesterday that the popular site HotorNot.com has launched an iPhone application. The free application not only lets you rate the outer beauty of fellow mankind but also allows you to tap into the MeetMe network, where users can connect with others to set up dates. The creepiest part: the software uses the iPhone’s GPS to narrow down where your results are coming from.

The New York Times's Social Media Policy
People have to be mindful of what they do and say online – an irreverent comment taken out of context can come back to haunt someone. People also need to be sure that they have “friends” they can trust not to post incriminating pictures or offensive comments. John Favreau, President Obama’s speechwriter, learned this lesson the hard way and was forced into an awkward apology to Hillary...

Survey: Web Video Beats TV Among Respondents Ages... →
Although this is probably surprising to no one, a new study found that 18- to 24-year-olds watch online video more than they watch TV. From my personal experience, I can confirm that this is true for most people my age. My roommates and I very rarely watch live television — we either watch shows on DVR or on Hulu, or download them through iTunes. It feels incredibly limiting to watch...

Twoogie, MD
Not content with having invented JUST the blog, mega-overachiever Doogie Howser, MD is revolutionizing the way we use Twitter by making it 64% more awesome. This is no small feat, considering the fact that Doogie only exists in the 1990s (no Twitter, but lots of hypercolor).
Anyhow, if you log on to twoogie.com/andrewrossi, you can see the Doogie Howser version of my tweets. Meaning, it looks...

Cision to Add Twitter Handles in Q2 →
PRNewser tells us that our PR database company, Cision, is planning to add journalists’ Twitter names to the service this year. I’m not sure how journalists will feel about this, as many of them have been irked by the number of publicists following them. However, I’ve seen others who are appreciative of the convenience it affords them — all they have to do is tweet a query,...

Jimmy Fallon Brings Marginal Humor to the Web
Remember the old days when you could still buy Jell-O pudding pops and mediocre humor was only available on television and at back alley comedy clubs that smelled of desperation, comics wearing ill-fitting blazers with shoulder pads, and hairsprayed women on the prowl? If you wanted “cut it out” jokes from Dave Coulier, you’d have to turn on the television (via handcrank, I...

Are Twittersquatters a problem for you?
As companies begin to dive into Twitter, they often find that their branded real estate has already been snatched up by Twittersquatters, the term for those who register a brand trademark on Twitter and sit on it until they can sell it for profit. Twitter’s terms and conditions do not effectively protect brands from this type of misuse, so watch out for your brands!

Here is a bold statement: Neil Patrick Harris invented the blog. It is true. Many think that Al Gore invented the blog. No. It was actually NPH…though, at the time, he was playing a precocious teen television doctor by the name of Doogie Howser. Excuse me, Dr. Doogie Howser, MD. The Case of the Missing Burrito →
Since so many people at M Booth are “Chipotle Heads,” I couldn’t resist posting this story from TechCrunch about the untimely disappearance of the Chipotle iPhone application. The application, which allowed loyal customers to order their favorite chain restaurant burritos to spec, was shut down because of overwhelming demand.
TechCrunch raises an interesting question:...
