Firms Strive to Better Social Media Skills of Every Staffer
M Booth’s very own Digisquad and our social media mentoring program were featured in the August issue of PRWeek!
M Booth & Associates created a group called “Digisquad.” It meets weekly about social media and includes at least one employee from every practice area. Account supervisors and SAEs within Digisquad are part of the agency’s social media mentoring program, in which the junior staffers show SVPs how to use social networking for personal use.
“We took a personal approach to social media because SVPs are already very smart strategists,” says Josh Rosenberg, SVP and director of FirstWord Digital at M Booth. “They just need to experience the value of communicating this way.”
Nice job, Josh!

Coldstone launched a cool Facebook app today where you can actually give a real ice cream sundae to a friend. As a sundae freak (hint, hint), I can definitely appreciate this. What’s interesting is that the app sends the recipient a code to redeem at one of their 1,300 retail locations. This is a great way for a brand to take advantage of e-commerce on Facebook — and an even better way to help a friend beat the heat!

This year, Twitter will add a whole new dimension to watching the Olympics.
I was reading the New York Times story on Sunday about how the Web is bringing fans so much closer to Olympic competitors — specifically, the ice skaters. It got me thinking about the impact Twitter will have on our collective following of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics as we watch from afar.
The running stream of tweets from the athletes, their families, the spectators and the fans across the world will surely bring us closer to the action than we’ve ever been before.

Has the time really come for me to join Foursquare? I know that mobile is where it’s going, but do you all really need to know where I am at every moment? I’ve been grappling with this for a long time. My esteemed colleague Alyssa just joined, after much protest.
Today, Foursquare launched its Blackberry app. I just may have to try it.
Also…on the topic of mobile, a great read today in Ad Age around 5 mobile trends for 2010.

While we’ve always been told not to talk to strangers, apparently we’re definitely listening to and influenced by them according to “Conversations Among Consumers,” a new report from Ripple6 and The E-tailing Group. The study found that when it comes to whose opinions influence shoppers (online and in person), strangers have as much, if not more, impact than friends.

Vespa Feels the Bromance

Vespa just kicked off a MySpace contest for the new Paul Rudd comedy I Love You, Man. Users who become friends of the movie’s MySpace page and comment on what they would do for their BFF are entered in the “I Love You, Man: How Far Would You Go for Your Bro? Comment Contest” for a chance to be awarded the scooter used in the movie. In my opinion, this is a really smart integration, as MySpace’s core audience is the exact viewer target for the movie.

Quit buying eyeballs, start earning whole fans.
Bud Cadell, Digital Media Isn’t Mass Media for Cheap.
This is definitely my quote of the day. Thanks, Bud! Great advice for all marketers looking to engage their audiences…not just online, but through all channels.
